Allied Health Assistant Program
Allied Health Assistant Program
Build everyday skills through supported practice.
You might know what you want to do, but find it hard to get started, remember the steps or use a strategy in daily life. Our allied health assistant helps you practise activities that matter to you, following a program developed by your occupational therapist.
We consider your strengths, the demands of the task and the environment, so practice fits your needs.

How We Work
Set up: Your OT assesses what is getting in the way and develops a plan with you. They give the assistant clear instructions and supervise the program.
Skill building: The assistant practises the agreed activities with you, using repetition, prompts and strategies in relevant everyday settings.
Review: The assistant reports back to your OT. Together, we review what is working, adjust the plan and reduce or maintain support according to your needs.
What the AHA Program Might Help You with
Your program can include:
- Preparing food: organising ingredients, following steps and making a snack or simple meal.
- Daily routines: practising household tasks, using reminders and planning your week.
- Travel training: planning a route, using a travel card and practising a bus or train journey together.
- Community participation: practising shopping, attending an activity or using strategies when a setting feels overwhelming.
- Study and work routines: organising materials, starting tasks and managing breaks.
This can support people whose mental health or psychosocial disability affects motivation, concentration, planning or participation. Practice is paced around your needs.
Where Sessions Take Place
Sarah provides face-to-face sessions at our Seaford clinic, mobile home visits and community activities. She also runs groups. Telehealth is available where appropriate for the person and activity.
AHA or Support Worker?
An AHA carries out agreed parts of your therapy program under an OT’s supervision. A support worker assists with everyday life and can help reinforce agreed strategies. Some people use both.
