Child and Adolescent Mental Health Occupational Therapy
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Occupational Therapy
We consider how a young person’s mental health, everyday activities and surroundings affect one another. This includes play, learning, self-care, friendships and family life.
Their strengths, interests and what matters to them guide our approach.

How We Work
We tailor our therapy to the young person’s developmental needs, communication and interests. We work with them, their parents or both to build skills and find what helps at home, school and in the community.
Therapy can include emotional regulation, planning and organisation, play and leisure, parent support and changes to routines or surroundings.
We build on what works and consider why something is easier in one setting than another. With appropriate consent, we involve schools and treating professionals.
How We Can Help
- School or activity anxiety: identify difficulties and develop manageable steps and supports for participation.
- Emotional overwhelm: recognise what contributes and practise ways to respond.
- Sensory demands: adjust activities or surroundings when noise, crowds or other demands become overwhelming.
- Friendships and groups: explore difficulties and find ways to make participation more comfortable.
- Sleep and daily routines: develop approaches that fit the young person and family.
- Planning and organisation: support getting started, keeping track of tasks and managing time.
Funding and Appointments
Medicare: rebates are available for eligible mental health treatment with an appropriate referral.
NDIS: we accept self-managed and plan-managed funding for eligible disability-related OT supports for daily function and participation.
