EMDR Therapy

EMDR

Past experiences can affect how you feel and participate in life now, including relationships, work, sleep and activities you avoid.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a structured psychotherapy that helps your brain process painful or traumatic memories so they have less negative impact on your daily life. At OUR THERAPIES, it forms part of mental health occupational therapy.

How We Work

We consider whether EMDR fits your experiences and current circumstances, and how treatment would support the parts of life that matter to you.

Treatment begins with understanding your history, current difficulties, and supports. Before processing memories, we work on preparation and strategies to manage distress.

During memory processing, your therapist guides you to focus on aspects of a disturbing memory while using side-to-side eye movements or another form of bilateral stimulation, such as tapping or auditory stimulation.

Training and Experience

EMDR requires additional training. Contact us to discuss whether this approach is suitable and its current availability.
