Psychotherapy and Counselling

Psychotherapy and Counselling

At OUR THERAPIES, psychotherapy begins with your everyday life. We explore how recurring emotions, reactions and relationship patterns affect the things you want, need or have to do.

Our clinicians draw on additional training in psychological and somatic approaches, while considering the connection between you, your occupations and your environment.

How We Work

Sessions involve conversation, reflection and processing experiences at a pace we discuss together. We explore the connections between thoughts, emotions, bodily responses and ways of relating to yourself and others.

Occupations are the everyday activities and roles that matter to you, including working, parenting, studying, caring for yourself and spending time with others. We consider these alongside your environment: the places, people, supports and expectations around you.

Therapy can involve practising different responses, adapting activities or surroundings, changing demands or making room for rest. Treatment approaches reflect your needs and the clinician’s training and experience.

What Psychotherapy and Counselling Might Support You with

You might notice difficulties in particular situations or across different parts of your life:

  • The same difficulties keep returning in relationships. We explore the patterns involved, how they developed and different ways of responding with partners, family, friends or colleagues.
  • Past experiences affect how you feel at work, at home or around others. Therapy can help you process those experiences and understand reactions such as feeling on edge, withdrawing or becoming overwhelmed.
  • You understand what is happening but still feel stuck. We explore the emotions and beliefs involved, alongside the demands, relationships and supports that influence what happens in those situations.
  • Much of life is going well, but something feels unresolved. Therapy provides space to explore grief, identity, life changes or recurring emotional patterns and their place in your life.

Training and Experience

Our therapists draw on occupational therapy qualifications and additional training in psychological and somatic treatment approaches. Each clinician brings different training and experience. Their profiles outline their qualifications and the modalities they offer.

Our senior occupational therapists hold mental health endorsement through Occupational Therapy Australia. Maintaining endorsement requires annual mental health professional development and ongoing supervision. The Mental Health Capability Framework (PDF) outlines the knowledge, skills and practice expectations for mental health occupational therapists.
