Functional Capacity Assessments
Functional Capacity Assessments
At OUR THERAPIES, our functional capacity assessments connect your disability with its impact on everyday activities, participation and the support you require.
We consider the person, their occupations and their environment: your strengths and difficulties, the things you want, need or have to do, and the people, places and demands around you.

Who We Assess
Our main assessment areas include:
- Psychosocial disability
- Autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions
- Acquired brain injury (ABI)
- Intellectual disability
- Cognitive impairments affecting memory, attention, planning or decision making
- Neurological conditions affecting everyday function
We also consider sensory and physical impairments that interact with these difficulties.
Your Everyday Functioning
We look beyond whether you can complete a task once. We consider whether you can manage it safely, consistently and sustainably, and what prompting, supervision or assistance you need.
This includes communication, learning, mobility, self-care, self-management and social interaction, and how these affect home life, relationships, work, study and community participation.
Your assessment combines your account of daily life, relevant observations and reports, and assessment tools selected for your needs. With your consent, we include information from family, carers, support workers and treating professionals to understand differences across days and settings.
Your Report
Your report explains the connection between your disability, functional difficulties, participation and support needs. Recommendations describe what support is required, its purpose, and why existing supports are insufficient.
For current NDIS participants, we confirm the disability or disabilities recognised by the NDIS and consider current formal and informal supports. The report provides clinical evidence for NDIS decisions; the NDIA determines access and funding.
NDIS Access Assessments
We also provide functional assessments to support NDIS access applications. See Occupational Therapy Assessments for this and other assessment options.
